Scope:
This Standard applies to plugs, receptacles, power inlets and
outlets, connectors, and similar wiring devices intended for use in
electronic and electrical applications as follows (see Figure
1):
(a) Type 0 rated up to 8.3 A and up to 30 V rms (42 V peak);
(b) Type 1A rated up to 8.3 A and from 30 V to 600 V ac or dc,
or both;
(c) Type 1 B rated from 8.3 A up to 200 A and up to 30 V rms (42
V peak);
(d) Type 2 rated from 8.3 A up to 31 A and from 30 V to 600 V ac
or dc, or both; and
(e) Type 3 rated from 31 A up to 200 A and from 30 V to 600 V ac
or dc, or both.
Note: As there is a great variety of
applications for products covered by this Standard, their use
should be evaluated with the design and construction of the end use
application and cannot be solely judged by the requirements of this
Standard.
This Standard does not apply to
(a) appliance plugs covered in CSA Standard 022.2 No. 57;
(b) attachment plugs, receptacles, and similar wiring devices
intended for use in hazardous locations covered in CSA Standard
C22.2 No. 159;
(c) general use receptacles, attachment plugs, and similar
wiring devices covered in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 42;
(d) industrial type, special use attachment plugs, receptacles,
equipment power inlets and outlets, and connectors covered in CSA
Standard C22.2 No. 182.1-M; or
(e) industrial locking type attachment plugs, receptacles, and
connectors covered in CSA Standard 022.2 No. 182.2-M.
