CSA, IAPMO Harmonize Plumbing Standards Certification, Testing

February 7, 2005

Currently, manufacturers selling in Canada and the U.S. need to test and certify their products for the applicable standard in each country. By harmonizing the standards into a single series, manufacturers will be able to have their products tested and certified to the single bi-national harmonized standard. With a harmonized standard, products carrying a CSA or IAPMO/ANSI certification mark will be able to be sold anywhere in North America.

The affected series of IAPMO/ANSI Z124 standards includes:

  • ANSI Z124.1 - Plastic Bathtub Units
  • ANSI Z124.2 - Plastic Shower Units
  • ANSI Z124.3 - Plastic Lavatories
  • ANSI Z124.4 - Plastic Water Closet Bowls and Tanks
  • ANSI Z124.6 - Plastic Sinks
  • IAPMO/ANSI Z124.9 - Plastic Urinal Fixtures

Development of the harmonization standards will begin this year with the formation of a Joint Harmonization Task Group composed of representatives from relevant technical committees. A publication date is scheduled for 2007.
